Live online classes on Zoom with Ali Khan Yousafzai. From holding the rabab for the first time to playing your first Pashto melody. Taught in Pashto, Urdu and English.

The rabab is the sound of Pashto music. It's played in hujras, at weddings and on stage, from Peshawar to Kabul. It's carved from a single block of mulberry wood, with a goatskin belly and sympathetic strings that keep ringing after you pluck.
In the old Pashto tale, Durkhanai hears Adam Khan playing the rabab at a friend's hujra and falls in love with him. It's still the instrument of Pashto romance, poetry and celebration.
You don't need any musical background. Just a rabab, a teacher and three evenings a week.
A rabab player who has taken Pashto music onto television, into Pakistan's leading universities and national arts institutions, and to international events. He's also a graduate in English Literature & Linguistics from NUML, and he brings that love of words to the music, setting the poetry of Ghani Khan and Allama Iqbal to the rabab.

Ali's slow-motion videos for rabab learners. This is the style you'll get in class, but live and with feedback.

Pashto music has always been carried by its poetry. Ali studied English Literature & Linguistics at NUML, and his rabab work keeps returning to the great poets of Pashto and Urdu, setting their kalam to music.
